In order to promote "DC Nation"'s 2012 premiere, the folks at Cartoon Network have released a claymation video that should give you a good idea of what the show will be like. You'll recognize the trademark animation style of Aardman Animations, the folks behind the "Wallace and Gromit" series.
In the video, goofed out versions of Batman, Superman, the Joker, Robin, and Catwoman play around, acting very, very silly. "I'm going to see how many hops I can do!" the Joker chortles in a semi-British accent, before jumping up and down and falling into a ventilation shaft. Catwoman coughs up a hair ball, and Superman laughs at the word "doo doo."
So, yes, not too serious and totally appropriate for the lighter feel they seem to be going for. It's fun to imagine what a DC-by-way-of-Gromit cartoon might look like if rendered in whole, though I imagine purists might get a little annoyed by Batman's dopey stare.
Check out the video after the jump!
"DC Nation" was announced a long time ago, so it's okay if you've forgotten what it's all about. In case you're thrown off by the press release-ese describing the show as "a multi-platform, branded block of original programming and exclusive content based on the DC Comics library of legendary character properties," let us interpret. It looks like it'll be animation, claymation, short videos, and any other type of superhero-related ephemera that might work when jammed together or in between Cartoon Network's normal programming. It's a different idea from the usual DC model, which is to create a detailed universe around one or multiple characters, but it looks pretty fun.
If you're not completely caught up, you can also watch an older teaser trailer promoting the whole concept. An official premiere hasn't been announced, but you should start to see it slip into your regular viewing sometime soon.
