Chronicle Stunt

New York City gets a lot of love in comics as the home base of many superheroes. Now a real life viral marketing campaign gave New Yorkers a taste of what it would really be like to live in the Big Apple from the pages.

A stunt for the upcoming found footage superhero movie, "Chronicle," involved three remote controlled flying devices, designed to look like three people flying. The flights were inspired by the new movie, which follows three high school students who acquire superpowers and eventually gain the ability to fly.

The stunt came as a collaboration between the film's studio, 20th Century Fox, and Thinkmodo, a viral marketing firm. According to the LA Times' Hero Complex, Thinkmodo made six total flights, each lasting about five minutes, due to a relatively short battery life.

Reports flooded in from several citizens, who may not have been used to seeing three men fly gracefully through the air next to the Brooklyn Bridge. During the six total flights, Thinkmodo took the team of RC superheroes around the Hudson River and toward the Statue of Liberty.

One of the RC units fell into the water and required the services of the NYC Habor Patrol to help fish it out.

Even as an ad, the video is strangely and quietly kind of beautiful. At the right angles you almost forget you're watching what is essentially a dressed-up remote control plane. Be sure to watch the video embedded above.

"Chronicle" opens February 3.
