CW Orders Pilot For 'Green Arrow' Series

Did the "Smallville" series finale bum you out? That's understandable -- even if there are plenty of DC superhero movies in the mix, none of them will ever be as soap-ready as "Smallville" was, what with its labyrinthine plots and oh-so beautiful cast.

Perhaps wary of giving up a good thing, the CW isn't quite ready to give up on the DC Universe. EW reports that they're close to a pilot order for a new show starring the Green Arrow, who popped up as often as possible over "Smallville"'s 10-year run.

Justin Hartley, who played Ollie Queen in more than 70 episodes of "Smallville," is reportedly not attached to the project. It'll instead be helmed by Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti, veterans who worked on last year's "Green Lantern" film. With Hartley uninvolved, it begs the question of whether the new show will take place in the "Smallville" DC-verse after all, but it would be weirder to imagine the CW jettisoning all the work they'd put into creating that world over a decade.

Then again, this is television, and this could a chance to cut everything and start over younger and sexier. Green Arrow could be played by Zac Efron's little brother, Hunter Efron (Hunter Efron is not real) -- a champion archer at his high school who has to save Star City from crime while planning for his calculus test. Along the way, he learns about girls and life, and in the process, learns about himself. That's the American Story, right there.
