"Powers," the superhero crime noir comic book series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, has long been developing for television over at FX. After casting Jason Patric as Christian Walker and Lucy Punch as his partner Deena Pilgrim, things were looking up for the "Powers" series… but fans are going to have to wait a little big longer for good news.
During an appearance at the Television Critics Association this past weekend, FX Networks President and General Manager John Landgraf revealed that the network has passed on the current version of the "Powers" pilot.
"We didn't pick the pilot of 'Powers' up," said Landgraf, according to Collider. "We went back and Chuck Eglee, who had written that, did a fairly substantial rewrite that would require pretty extensive re-shoots of the pilot. Right now, we're in the process of deciding whether to pull the trigger on that re-shoot."
Though the "Powers" pilot is currently in a holding pattern, Bendis himself took to Twitter to cool down premature talk of the show's demise.
"Still in limbo is not the end of the world," he wrote. "Never pity a guy with a TV deal. Lots of smart people working on it right now. Stay tuned."
Indeed, Landgraf himself sounds optimistic about wanting to put "Powers" on television: "I really adore the underlying material. Also, Brian Bendis, who's been a fantastic partner on the project, has been with it, from the beginning."
