We now have the trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man" that we've been waiting for, one that actually fulfills some of the promises of a reboot. The web shooters shoot. Spidey verbally berates carjackers and, more importantly, acts like Spider-Man. Surprising, huh?
As much as I enjoy the new trailer for "The Amazing Spider-Man," I have to question the use of the tagline "The Untold Story," because I'm pretty sure they told this story already. For all of its new additions and fixes, the sinking feeling that we've already seen this story and this movie may prove too difficult to escape. Perhaps they mean "untold" as if they're taking back the first three movies. Any way we can just un-tell "Spider-Man 3"?
Aside from that, the trailer delivered on several important levels for fans of the wall crawler. The shining star here has to be Andrew Garfield, who finally got the chance to show off his acting ability and knowledge of the character.
His Peter Parker feels intrinsically different from Tobey Maguire's soft-spoken man-child in his look, attitude and style, inside the suit and out. The trailer certainly leaves you wanting to see more of Garfield in the suit just being Spidey. That's if he can keep his mask on for longer than 10 minutes.
The Lizard's mostly unhidden appearance in the preview underwhelmed, especially when you consider that its most significant revelation was that the PEZ dispenser was right. Let's just hope that the transformed version of Curt Connors amounts to more than just a rampaging reptile.
Overall, the preview felt like a much more complete trailer than the first one, benefiting from more complete footage, but we'll have to wait until July 3 for the entire untold story.
