Tom Hardy Recalls First 'Dark Knight Rises' Encounter With Christian Bale

Bookmark and Share

How would you feel about meeting Christian Bale? Terrified and/or ecstatic, we presume. Tom Hardy, who plays Bane in the upcoming "Dark Knight Rises," fell somewhere in between when getting prepped to work on the film. In an interview on "The Jonathan Ross Show," Hardy describes the first time he met the titular Dark Knight, sans costume.

"When I got to L.A. to do a screen testing in the giant Bane outfit, I'd done some work," he says. "I felt strong, I'd been training. I see Christian sitting there and I didn't have the tee-shirt pressed on, and I see his arms. I looked at him and thought, 'I'm gonna work this.'"

If that wasn't enough, Bale couldn't resist throwing some shade at his smaller co-star. "I sat down and got changed into my outfit and went on set, and this huge leaning figure turns up that's about ten foot tall, eight feet wide with huge pointy ears," Hardy says. "I looked at him and he goes, 'Oh yeah. I'm Batman.'" (You can click to around the nine minute mark of the interview to watch Hardy's comments for yourself.)

Hardy's been hot on the promotion trail as of late, telling us that he isn't worried about the inability of some moviegoers to understand Bane, and how much he enjoyed wearing that distinctive mask. In another light moment, he told Ross that he was expecting "the one in the grey pants." When Ross flashed a photo of the decidedly more timid Adam West Batman, he remarked, "I'd kick the hell out of him."
