Two New 'Avengers' Photos: Sittin', Talkin' and Walkin'

Avengers

Two new photos from Marvel's upcoming "The Avengers" prove to be just like every other picture from "The Avengers."

Marvel has made their promotional plan for "The Avengers" pretty clear at this point. They have a large cast of characters to work with. Instead of releasing images from different scenes in the movie, like most films, Marvel simply sends out new photos with different combinations of characters talking, standing around and walking.

"Have they seen Agent Colson talking to Thor yet?" New photo.

"Have Hawkeye, Cap and Black Widow walked toward the camera together?" New photo!

"Has Nick Fury stood while Bruce Banner and Tony Spark sit talking?" Coming next week…

But frankly, this release pattern is preferable to more traditional promotional plans for big-budget superhero flick. Instead of photos from different scenes throughout the movie, most of the "Avengers" stills have taken place inside the Helicarrier and reveal nothing of the larger plot for the film, leaving the biggest secrets intact. We can get behind that strategy!

Thor Coulson

Think about it. What have we really seen from "The Avengers"? The crew assembles in the Helicarrier for a meet and greet. ("Hi, everyone. My name's Tony, but you may remember me from such films as 'Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2.'") Then we've seen trailer snippet after trailer snippet from the big fight in the streets of New York City. We know Loki shows up to rule Earth and that he has some help. All told, we've seen what amounts to maybe 45 minutes of the movie. There could be so much we have no clue about.

Avengers Captain American Black Widow

But then again, maybe this movie is all sitting, talking and walking, like Aaron Sorkin's chatty take on the ins and outs of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Coming to NBC this fall.)
