The Avengers

"The Avengers" might not be set to soar into theaters until May 4, but some lucky people are going to be seeing the film almost a week ahead of time. Today it was announced that Marvel's upcoming superhero ensemble flick is going to be closing out the Tribeca Film Festival.

It might seem like a weird pairing at first glance, but the Tribeca team said that "The Avengers" helps honor the spirit of their festival. Local "everyday heroes" from police agencies, fire departments, first responders and military personnel have been invited to attend the screening and meet the cast.

"'Marvel's The Avengers' is an exciting ride that absolutely transports audiences," Jane Rosenthal, Co-Founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, said in a press release. "It is the perfect way to end our 11th Festival."

It's unclear which cast members will specifically be in attendance, but we're hoping it's a turn out as cool as their presence at Comic-Con in 2010. At least Joss Whedon will likely show up, since he seemed beyond psyched that the film was being honored at Tribeca.

"Showing at Tribeca is both an honor and a double homecoming for me, who grew up in Manhattan, and for the movie, which wrapped production there," he said in the same press release. "I'm thoroughly psyched to be closing the festival with our intimate little think-piece."

"The Avengers" stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan SkarsgÄrd and Samuel L. Jackson. It is the current culmination of the recent films previously released by Marvel Studios, which include "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."
