There have been a number of Batman animated series throughout the years, most recently being "Batman: The Brave and the Bold." However, Cartoon Network is launching a new Batman series, called "Beware the Batman," later this year.
What sets this new Batman cartoon apart from the others, you may ask? Well, in contrast to all of the previous Batman series which shared the traditional 2-D animation style, "Beware the Batman" will be the first Batman cartoon to feature CGI animation. Keep reading for a look at the new Caped Crusader!
In addition to the new CGI format, "Beware the Batman" boasts a heaping helping of new villains that you've probably never heard of before. Characters like Anarky and Magpie will be among the leading forces of opposition, along with Grant Morrison's fan-favorite characters Mr. Toad and Professor Pyg. Joining Batman in his never-ending fight against evil are the "ex-secret agent" Alfred and the lethal swordstress known as Katana.
"Featuring cutting-edge CGI visuals to match the intricate twists and turns of the narrative, Batman steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight for an entirely new generation of fans," reads a statement from Cartoon Network. Judging on that, it seems like "Beware the Batman" will be ditching the light-hearted attitude of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" and returning to the grim and gritty feel of the beloved "Batman: The Animated Series." Fans will also be pleased to hear that "Batman Beyond's" Glen Murakami is attached to the project as producer.
I, for one, am really excited to see CGI animated versions of Mr. Toad and Professor Pyg. As a huge fan of Grant Morrison's run on "Batman and Robin" and "Batman Incorporated," I can honestly say that these two characters are the creepiest new villains I have come across in quite a while. It will be interesting to see just how much these animators can get away with without completely terrifying their core audience.
