As the May 4 release date of "Marvel's The Avengers" creeps closer and closer, industry insiders have tried to peg just how big the ultimate superhero meet-up will be.
A new article from The Hollywood Reporter states that early tracking for the potential blockbuster indicates that "The Avengers" could debut to more money than last month's "The Hunger Games" and even "The Dark Knight."
If the tracking for "The Avengers" is to be trusted, the opening weekend could mean a bow somewhere north of $ 150 million. The same early polls show general interest in the film as slightly higher than both "The Hunger Games" and "The Dark Knight."
Earlier this month, "The Hunger Games" opened to a record breaking $ 152.5 million, third of all time behind Christopher Nolan's second Batman movie at $ 158.4 million, and the reigning champion, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" with nearly $ 170 million.
The biggest opening weekend for a Marvel Studios movie was $ 128.1 million for "Iron Man 2," back in 2010.
