Earth's mightiest heroes are still just over a week away from hitting theaters in the United States, and already they're assembling some record-breaking numbers overseas.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news that "Marvel's The Avengers" is already kicking otherworldly amounts of ass at the foreign box office, scoring the second-highest opening of all time in Australia with $ 6 million, just $ 1 million behind the record-holder "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."
Elsewhere, "Avengers" scored the biggest opening day ever in New Zealand with $ 800,000, roped in $ 3 million in France, and $ 1.2 million in Taiwan for the country's all-time greatest Wednesday opening.
In other words, "Avengers" is already doing really, really well ahead of its U.S. release. One can only imagine the box office fire it's going to start stateside come May 4, 2012.
