God bless America! Captain America, that is. As if the new "Avengers" clip wasn't enough, Marvel has graciously gifted us with the release date for a sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger." Marvel, you are far too kind to us. Slated for a 2014 release, "Captain America 2" will take place directly after the events of the upcoming "Avengers" movie.
Which means that unlike "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Captain America 2" will be taking place in modern times. This, while eliminating a slew of potential foes from Cap's past, opens the door for some of Steve Rogers' biggest and baddest villains. » Baron Zemo
The original Baron Zemo was one of the top scientists employed by the Nazi Party during World War II. While he may not be able to be in the sequel, his son Helmut Zemo sure can! Taking after his father, Baron Helmut Zemo has repeatedly proved himself to be a threat to Captain America; kidnapping and brainwashing several of Cap's closest friends and taking it upon himself to form the fourth incarnation of the Masters of Evil. Like his father, Helmut is highly intelligent and racist.
» M.O.D.O.K.
George Tarleton was once a normal technician working for a terrorist organization called A.I.M., Advanced Idea Mechanics. Now, with the help of some advanced mutagenetics, Tarleton exists only as the Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing, a super intelligent being with psionic powers. However, a side effect of the mutation caused Tarleton's head to grow so big that his body can no longer support it. Which is why he uses an exoskeleton and a hoverchair equipped with various missiles and lasers. He's awesome. And the "Captain America" writers want Peter Dinklage for the role!
» Flag-Smasher
Karl Morgenthau dreamed of one day becoming a diplomat, until he witnessed his father being trampled to death due to a riot in Latveria. Soon he realized that the world was no place for countries or nationalities and set out to unify mankind by eliminating nationalism all together. Calling himself the "Flag-Smasher," Morgenthau is the head of a terrorist organization called ULTIMATUM. He has made it his personal mission to make sure that no nation ever feels inferior to any other nation again.
» Winter Soldier
Remember when Bucky Barnes falls out of the train to his doom towards the end of the first "Captain America" movie? Well, what if he's not dead? In the comics, Bucky's body is recovered by a Russian patrol submarine who then revive him and give him a bionic arm. Suffering from an extreme case of amnesia and other brain damage, Bucky is subsequently programmed to be a secret Soviet assassin. While not on missions, the "Winter Soldier" is kept in cryogenetic statis which would explain how Bucky was able to survive all of those years that Steve's been missing.
» Crossbones
Believed to be responsible for the death of Captain America, Brock Rumlow is consistenly one of the Red Skull's most trusted henchmen. Often times acting as the leader of the Red Skull's Skeleton Crew, Crossbones is a deadly mercenary trained in hand-to-hand combat by the supervillain known as Taskmaster. Although he has no real superpowers, he is considered to be highly dangerous as he's been known to kill lesser superheroes and supervillains without thinking twice. Crossbones is an expert marksman and skilled in the art of torturing and brainwashing.
