If Kevin Feige was the reason all the standalone Marvel movies are culminating in "The Avengers" next Friday, it also seems fair to suggest that he'll be the reason we one day see a "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie.
We've been hearing a lot about "Guardians" from Feige recently, and he continued the trend in an interview with /Film. While he didn't outright confirm that "Guardians of the Galaxy" would be the next new Marvel property brought to the big screen, he did say that we should be headed to space soon.
"The Cosmic Universe is a big part of [the Marvel universe] and I love space movies," he said. "I certainly like the notion of exploring some of that. That will probably not be in another 'Iron Man' movie, because it doesn't make much sense. That will not be in another 'Captain' movie. 'Thor' does inhabit a certain part of that world and there are other characters and other properties that we've talked a little bit about, but have announced anything yet that will really bare fruit in that arena."
When /Film flat out asked him if that movie will be "Guardians of the Galaxy," Feige confirmed that that is the plan.
"That's where a lot of that will really come to fruition and to me it's okay and 'Avengers' is the place to mash it all up, because that's what Avengers is for," he said.
The conversation covered a lot of ground about "The Avengers," but one of the more interesting elements of the conversation came when Feige was asked just how planned out the Marvel movies are. It turns out that a lot of effort was put in to making sure the flicks worked on their own as well as in the greater series.
"I won't say there's a master board that somebody can break into a room and look at, but we have that stuff and a lot of it is, because again the most important thing is that the movies work on their own," Feige said. "The majority of movie goers are not tracking all of the stuff, but it can't be 'Lost,' which I love 'Lost,' but you're either in or your out, right?"
Lastly, /Film asked Feige if the rumors of Disney making an animated Marvel movie are actually true. Somewhat unsurprisingly, his answer was simply, "There are certainly discussions."
