In the battle between summer blockbusters "Marvel's The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight Rises," the question of who's the winner has a fairly obvious answer: the fans, of course! But even the folks at Disney/Marvel and Warner Bros/DC Comics seem to understand that 2012 represents a massive occasion for the geek community far and wide, and (to an extent) there's room for everybody to come out a winner.
Believe it or not, the two biggest superhero films of the year are indeed joining forces in a limited (but no less awesome) capacity: "Avengers," debuting in theaters everywhere on May 4, will feature a brand new theatrical trailer for "Dark Knight Rises."
Exactly what the new round of "DKR" footage will entail is anybody's guess, of course. You don't need an inside source to determine that it'll feature Batman, Bane, and Catwoman. Beyond that, who knows? Everything else we know, or think we know, about Christopher Nolan's final ride into Gotham City could be smoke and mirrors, as the filmmaker is known for his secrecy.
It's not the first time that Batman's made an unlikely alliance in recent months. The Caped Crusader was seen in front of "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" IMAX screenings in December with a six-minute prologue sequence all about Bane. It's not full-fledged footage from the movie, no, but a "Dark Knight Rises" trailer attached to "The Avengers" is awesome enough to guarantee our box office bucks, even if we were already planning on seeing Earth's mightiest heroes anyway.
