"The Avengers" are here! Well, kind of — they're here in print form, at least!

The Avengers

The cover for the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features Earth's Mightiest Heroes in all of their glory, has debuted online today alongside some brand new quotes from director Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner.

Not a lot of info has been revealed just yet, but Renner offered this astute observation about the "Avengers" squad: "Just because they're super heroes doesn't mean they're super friends." Clearly, egos are going to collide when Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and others are thrown into the same room—as are armored fists, star-spangled shields and godly hammers. Just the way we like it!

The EW story points out that on the set, the gang gets along just fine, as we've previously reported. Apparently, "Avengers" hang time activities include checking out Motley Cruë concerts and dancing with Joss Whedon, who supposedly knows "every dance club in Albuquerque." And that's just one of the many, many reasons why we want to party with Joss.

In further Whedon adventures, the "Avengers" writer-director admitted that he was constantly retooling the movie's script while shooting, saying, "There is a weird element of: they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I'm making it up as I go." Improv and quippy dialogue is not just a strong suit for Joss, but also for RDJ ("I dominated like a rabid, horny gorilla," he says, whatever that means) and the rest of the cast. Pretty sure that "making it up as I go" isn't an awful thing in this instance.
