'Dredd' Director Removed From Project, Says Report

dredd"Dredd," the "Judge Dredd" reboot, is now in postproduction, but it looks as though the goings-on behind the scenes are living up to the film's title.

It's been reported that director Pete Travis has been removed from the film's editing process following alleged creative disagreements with executives and producers, though it's not clear what those disagreements entailed.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Alex Garland, who both wrote and produced the film, is now overseeing "Dredd" development during the editing phase. There is even talk that Garland could seek credit as a co-director, but to do so, he would have to get permission from the Directors Guild of Great Britain.

According to the troubling report, "Dredd" could even undergo reshoots; there's no word on who would fill in as director during those shoots.

There is some controversy, as the Times pointed out, about whether or not all this will have any effect on how well the movie does. Similar conflicts were said to have happened on "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," and the outcome was very different for each production. "G.I. Joe" was a hit at the box office whereas "Prince of Persia" didn't do as well as hoped for. Could the editing phase controversy have anything to do with "Prince of Persia" not faring well?

"Dredd" is scheduled to be released September 2012.
