It ain't easy being a teenage superhero, or a teenager at all, even if your hair is perfectly coiffed, your arms perfectly ripped.
Looking at these new photos from the set of "The Amazing Spider-Man," that much is for sure. We hadn't noticed Andrew Garfield's probably-not-intentional resemblance to "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson before, but it's all there -- the gelled hair, the faraway eyes, the defined-but-not-ridiculous physique. Nerd glasses don't do much to dispel the image; after all, those are also pretty cool these days.
More believable as an average high school student (well, to an extent) is Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, reverted back to her original blonde hair color, hugging her textbooks to her chest like she's late for chemistry class. At just 23 years old, Stone can still pass as a second semester senior, whereas Garfield, age 28, seems a little too together. Sometimes it shakes that way, though. It'll only get noticeable if they stick to high school for a sequel, in which case Garfield will be pushing 30 and looking decidedly out of place. That sequel is probably a while away, though, even with the rate of superhero movies as it is. We'll hold our comments for then.
Garfield and Stone are lucky enough to get this job for their age range; under David Fincher, the origin story would've been taken care of within 10 minutes and audiences would've leaped to an older Spidey. As it is, they'll get to mull around high school hallways and feel young for 2 hours. Isn't that what movie magic is all about?
