As we pointed out yesterday, itâs been a big year for Tom Hiddleston. With villainous star turns in âThor" and âThe Avengers" and dramatic roles in artsy films like âWar Horse" and âMidnight in Paris," heâs the real breakout star among the cast of âAvengers" characters.
Before he can move on to bigger things, heâs got to settle the role of Loki, whoâs supposed to be the villain in this summerâs âAvengers" film. Regardless of how the trickster god fares against Earthâs Mightest Heroes, Hiddleston is still signed on for the âThor" sequel, which is set to begin filming later this year.
In an interview with Empire, Hiddleston teased that even in "Thor 2," Loki will be up to the same tricks as usual.
"I don't want to spoil anything here," he said. âLoki's eternal predilection is to dance on the fault lines of villainy and redemption. I think whatever happens to him, he'll always keep people guessing."
As Hiddlestonâs Loki was more misunderstood than malignant, that could mean a reversal back to the side of good after whatever conflict he faces in âThe Avengers." It could also just be the necessary interview vagueness from an actor whoâs become well-accustomed to the publicity cycle of superhero films.
âAll I know about âThor 2â is that we're supposed to film it in London in the summer and that it is being directed by Alan Taylor," he said, probably playing more coy than honest. But hey, thatâs becoming his right -- with his star growing brighter, pretty soon heâll be able to talk about whatever he wants.
