For those "Spider-Man" fans lucky enough to attend this year's WonderCon in Anaheim, they were treated to a panel discussion from director Marc Webb, producer Matt Tolmach, and leading lady Emma Stone, aka Peter Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy. Stepping on to the stage donning black 3D-glasses, Webb and Tolmach revealed how honored they felt to be part of the "Spider-Man" franchise and how this film, in theaters July 3rd, differed from those before it.

The panel revealed a deeper, more intimate look at Peter Parker's life and the obstacles he faced right from his childhood. MTV News spoke with Webb and Stone about the new take on the iconic superhero.

"There's Peter Parker's parents," Webb stated, "the cinematic story that comes from that, I think is something people haven't seen before." The story seems to be more grounded in reality than previous Spider-Man films, touching upon the organic relationships and situations that make Peter Parker such a relatable person and superhero.

"I think there's a real emotional consequence to someone who's left by their parents when they're seven or eight years old," revealed Webb, "and that contributes to sort of this trickster, chip-on-his-shoulder attitude." Spider-Man fans will be introduced to Peter Parker's (not Spider-Man's) first love interest, too. Peter's relationship with his high-school crush, Gwen Stacy, has not yet been explored on film, and Webb is excited for audiences to meet her.

Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" certainly takes on a new approach to the web-slinging superhero. But, fans of action, fighting, and super villains will not be disappointed. "I think we have a lot more ground to try to make everything, kind of a very real, genuine place," Webb said, "And there's, of course, there's the Lizard, the villain, that really helps define what the 'Spider-Man' movie is going to be."

"The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters July 3rd.
