Conan O'Brien, 'TMNT' Creator Weigh In On Michael Bay Controversy

It seems like an understatement to say that fans were displeased when Michael Bay announced that his upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot would turn the turtles into aliens. When he later came out and told fans to "take a breath, and chill," it only seemed to fuel the flames of their rage.

Now Conan O'Brien has tossed his hat into the debate by creating the above video and airing it on his TBS show, "Conan." In true Conan style, it is both hilarious and appropriate. But he wasn't the only one weighing in on the Bay/"Turtles" debacle.

Meanwhile in other parts of the Internet, "TMNT" co-creator Peter Laird responded on his blog to the many requests from fans to weigh in on Bay's take on the franchise. He can't do anything to prevent it, unfortunately, but he seems to think that it could maybe sort of be a good idea.

"I would actually encourage TMNT fans to swallow the 'chill pill' Mr. Bay recently suggested they take, and wait and see what might come out of this seemingly ill-conceived plan," he said. "It's possible that with enough truly creative brainpower applied to this idea, it might actually work. I'm not saying it's probable, or even somewhat likely… but it IS possible."

Baird said that people have been coming to him for years to try to introduce a fifth turtle, and that this might be the perfect opportunity to do so.

"[T]he reason I say it could be a 'genius' idea is that -- for the first time -- someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want. I mean, if the TMNT are actually members of an alien race, there could be a whole PLANET of them!" he wrote. "Joy."
