It feels as though we've been speculating about the return of Liam Neeson's Ra's al Ghul ever since "The Dark Knight Rises" was announced. The actor has gone as far as to confirm that he was on the set of the film, but now we have definitely proof that he is actually going to play a role in Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie.
Warner Bros released production notes for "Wrath of the Titans," Neeson's next film, that confirmed he will have a role in "The Dark Knight Rises." And if we're going to believe anyone, it's going to be the studio that is handling the flick.
"Neeson next appears in Peter Berg's actioner 'Battleship,' and he also will be seen in Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated action thriller 'The Dark Knight Rises,'" the production notes say.
When MTV News caught up with Neeson while he was promoting "The Grey," he and director Joe Carnahan weighed in on the many ways Nolan's Batman trilogy have changed the superhero genre. Carnahan described them as "absolute character studies disguised as superhero films," and Neeson agreed.
"[Nolan] seems to have upped the ante quite a bit, hasn't he," Neeson said. "He's made it dark and complex."
"The Dark Knight Rises" stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Gary Oldman. It's due in theaters on July 20.
