Jon Bernthal's Frank Darabont reunion is finally official. The "Walking Dead" veterans are set to join forces once again on "L.A. Noir," Darabont's 1940s-set TNT crime drama about LAPD officers waging war against the city's criminal underground.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news of the official casting, with Bernthal set to play Joe Teague, the cop at the heart of the series. He'll star alongside "Heroes" alum Milo Ventimiglia and "Captain America" actor Neal McDonough in the series.

(Warning, "Walking Dead" spoilers are ahead.)

How Bernthal would fit "L.A. Noir" into his "Walking Dead" schedule was a cause for some questions when the news first surfaced. Of course, fans know better now: Bernthal's Shane bit the dust on Sunday night's episode, "Better Angels," after a season-long conflict with lead character Rick Grimes.

Bernthal spoke with EW.com about his character's demise, and offered up a lot of noteworthy information in the process. The highlight for me is his interpretation of Shane's final moments, which he described as somewhat "suicidal."

"There's a whole part of the character that I think some people may or may not pick up on, but I think there's a part of Shane himself that knows he is no longer fit to be among the people," said the actor. "He knows how much of a danger he is. He knows now he's killed yet another human being, and I think a part of this is him really spurring and challenging and getting Rick to step up and encompass what Shane has and take Shane out. I think there's a suicidal flavor. There's a flavor there that's really saying, 'Come on, man, I'm challenging you to be the man that's fit to raise the woman I love and the child I love and my child on the way. Come on and step up, raise your gun.' And there's a part of him that so desperately wants Rick to be that man, and when Rick finally does it, there's an element of some sort of relief."

I don't know about you, but I really like that interpretation. Check out the full EW.com interview for more.
