Joss Whedon Puts A Few 'Avengers' Rumors To Rest At SXSW

Thanks to the upcoming release of the Joss Whedon-penned horror movie "The Cabin In The Woods" and his requisite promotional commitments and interviews because of it, we've been hit with a nice influx of "Avengers"-related news recently.  There's been talk of the additional villains, the sequel and Iron Man's suit, etc.

When MTV News caught up with Whedon himself at the "Cabin" premiere recently, which kicked-off Austin's annual South By Southwest Film Festival Friday night we asked him to expand upon the comments about wanting the sequel to be more painful and personal, as well as what he's enjoyed most so far of the editing phase.

"Um, all of it," he said. "I really am, I'm enjoying it a lot."

We then asked if his wanting a more painful and personal sequel might involve a certain strained relationship between two brothers.  Whedon did not answer my very pointed question (about Thor and Loki, of course) with any words, he just broke out into a huge grin, at which point I told him that as long as it involves one of my favorite people on the planet, Tom Hiddleston, we'll be good.

"If you love Tom Hiddleston you're going to have a good time there," Whedon said, still smiling. "He really brings it."

Speaking of the man who plays the master of mischief and whether or not Loki will have any extra help via other villains in the film, Whedon seemed to put the pesky Skrull and Kree rumors to rest during his SXSW panel, "A Conversation With Joss Whedon."

"I will say only this: It is not the Kree or the Skrulls," he told the very enthusiastic crowd at Austin's Convention Center Saturday. "Those two aliens are Marvel mainstays and have enormous backstories. They have a big life of their own that just could not be contained in a film where I already had seven movie stars." Whedon said that he wanted to set the record straight because he didn't want fans to be disappointed, also because the technical difficulties of adding the shape-changing Skrulls would have been too much. Even for him.

"I've already got Loki. He's got magic. Once you got magic along with your Iron Man and your Black Widow — it's a real juggling act."
