'Ninja Turtles' Co-Creator Clarifies Pro-Bay Stance

Turns out that Peter Laird isn't a supporter of Michael Bay's new plan to reboot "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" by making them aliens. Like, at all. This is why we don't use sarcasm on the Interwebs, kids!

"Did you really get out of what I wrote that I in any way, shape or form LIKE the idea of a planet of Turtles? If so, I guess I have to re-think how I express myself," he wrote on his blog in response to a commenter. "Just so it's absolutely clear -- I think a planet of turtles is not, in and of itself, a bad idea for some kind of science fiction/fantasy story. But as a way to explain any aspect of the backstory of TMNT, I think it is awful and unnecessary."

Whoops! Bay probably was over the moon when he found out that a co-creator of "TMNT" was in support of his decision. Turns out Laird was using his dry sense of humor and most people (including us!) didn't pick up on it.

In Laird's original comments, he said he would suggest fans "take a breath, and chill" as Bay previously instructed, because the "Transformers" director's plan to have the Turtles be aliens instead of mutants "might actually work."

"[T]he reason I say it could be a 'genius' idea is that -- for the first time -- someone has come up with a way to have as many freakin' Turtles as they want. I mean, if the TMNT are actually members of an alien race, there could be a whole PLANET of them!" he wrote.
