TMNT

Well here's the proof that we needed that the live action and CGI reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is actually happening. Turns out that Paramount has finally given the film a release date: Christmas 2013.

Even though we are barely at the summer 2012 movie season, that release date doesn't sound too far off. Deadline has the big news, but doesn't elaborate on any sort of production schedule or filming start date.

The site does confirm Jonathan Liebesman as director for the film, whereas he was listed as only "in talk" back in February when his involvement was first announced.

This is good news for the updated film, I think. Liebesman is best known for directing "Battle: Los Angeles" and the upcoming "Wrath of the Titans," so it goes without saying that this new "TMNT" movie is going to be action-packed. It helps that -- last we checked -- the film was being written by the "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, though there's a chance Paramount could tinker with the script before the project goes in front of the camera.

Now there's just the matter of casting, though. It will be interesting to see if Paramount goes with well-known actors or relative unknowns to voice (and likely play) the lead turtles. It was announced that this film would be a hybrid of live action and CGI, but we aren't sure where the line is drawn on bringing the martial arts-inclined turtles to life.

If Liebesman and the rest of the creative team need any help coming up with ideas on how to reboot the series, we here at Splash Page came up with a pretty extensive list of ideas on how to revamp "TMNT." Just saying!
