Paul Feig understands teenagers. This is something that has become a well-known fact ever since his cult TV show "Freaks and Geeks" launched its first and only season back in 1999. The "Bridesmaids" director understands the teenage psyche and what makes them tick, though it's a topic we haven't seen him revisit much in recent years.
Fortunately, that's about to change. In an interview with Vulture at the Tribeca Film Festival, the New York Magazine entertainment website asked Feig which summer movie he is most excited for. It turns out that it's "The Amazing Spider-Man," since he was asked to come in and help write one of the scenes.
Feig is apparently good friends with "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb, and the latter asked him to help out with one of the movie's high school scenes.
"He's a great guy, he invited me on set, and I did a little bit of writing for that movie, for one of the high school scenes, so I'm excited," Feig admitted in the interview.
As if we weren't already excited for this movie! "The Amazing Spider-Man" deals with a teenage Peter Parker, so the high school scene Feig mentioned could be any number of moments. We'll likely find out which scene he worked on after the movie is released.
But this sort of set-up worked out great the last time we saw an established name work on a friend's movie this year. Steven Soderbergh shot the District 11 riot scene in Gary Ross' "The Hunger Games," and it was one of the coolest moments in the movie. Soderbergh left his definitive stamp on the scene, and hopefully we'll be able to say the same about Feig once "The Amazing Spider-Man" hits theaters July 3.
