"Captain Planet" is headed back to a television set near you!
The Boomerang network has announced that they're going to be airing a 28-episode marathon of "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" in honor of Earth day. The Turner Broadcasting 24-hour classic animation station coordinated with the Captain Planet Foundation to handpick 28 episodes of the hit '90s show to run starting on April 22.
The marathon will start at 6 a.m. and include an airing of the show's pilot, "A Hero for Earth." And if those 28 episodes aren't enough, "Captain Planet" airs Monday through Saturday on Boomerang at 6 a.m.
It sounds like a solid way to celebrate Earth Day to us. The real question, though, is when the actual movie is going to be made? And, better yet, when is Don Cheadle's involvement going to be official?
"'Captain Planet' is an exciting, adventure-filled series that communicates to kids how important our planet is and that we need to take care of it," said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Cartoon Network and Boomerang, in a press release about the event. "Presenting a full-day marathon of 'Captain Planet' to celebrate Earth Day is our way of supporting this worthy cause."
The show follows five Planeteers from five different continents as they battle to protect Earth from various pollutants and contaminants. By combining their powers of Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Heart, they can summon Captain Planet and prevent disasters from befalling Earth.
