Considering that we've now seen two "Avengers" clips showing the Black Widow being a badass, it seems like it was only a matter of time before we got a featurette about her character. Scarlett Johansson is front and center in this latest inside look at "The Avengers."
"I'm such a huge fan of the Black Widow and I love playing this character and, for me, suiting up again was just pretty exciting," Johansson said in the featurette. "All of these characters are sort of reluctant superheroes in a sense. All of these characters coming together in one world; it's very exciting."
Turns out that the Black Widow has been enlisted by Nick Fury to find and recruit the superheroes they've targeted to be a part of the Avengers initiative. We got a tease of that earlier today in our daily "Avengers" clip. In it, Black Widow tries to convince Bruce Banner to help S.H.I.E.L.D. find what may or may not be the Cosmic Cube. She almost finds herself face-to-face with the Hulk, but ends up just being tested by Banner to see what she will do.
Apparently Black Widow's return in "The Avengers" was never in question -- which may explain why Marvel was quick to have her back fora third time in "Iron Man 3."
"Black Widow is just so apt and so gifted that we figured she should be part of the team," said Robert Downey Jr., who previously fought alongside Johansson in "Iron Man 2." That seems like sound enough reasoning for her inclusion from where we're sitting.
