If "The Walking Dead" fans know one things, it's that you are never truly safe during a zombie apocalypse. With that said, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie on the show, will be heading into the upcoming third season with a newfound sense of safety, having been promoted to "series regular" as reported by TVLine.
As Hershel's eldest daughter and Glenn's love interest, Maggie was a recurring character during the second season of "Walking Dead." But while Cohan's promotion to series regular means that we'll be seeing more of Maggie, it doesn't necessarily mean that she'll make it out of season three alive.
Last season's emotional rollercoaster of an arc served up four major deaths, three of those deaths being of characters that play prominent roles in the comic books. What the deaths of Sophia, Otis, and Dale had in common was that nobody saw them coming and that they proudly displayed the vast differences between the "Walking Dead" comic book and the "Walking Dead" TV show.
Both Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey DeMunn, who played Shane and Dale respectively, were series regulars on the show and they both got offed this past season, which indicates that Cohan's promotion won't be saving her from being killed off as well.
(Warning: spoilers for the comics coming up.)
Personally, I hope that Maggie doesn't bite the big one. In the comics, the relationship between Glenn and Maggie is the one thing that somehow manages to survive all odds. Currently up to its 96th issue, both Glenn and Maggie are still alive and well in the "Walking Dead" comic book universe. Watching the two of them grow together, physically and mentally, is something that I'm sure many of us are looking forward to in this upcoming season. Let's hope those pesky walkers don't deprive us of that beautiful budding relationship before its time.
