Fans of "The Walking Dead," returning this Sunday night (October 16), may be waiting with bated breath to see how the second season of the zombie survival series unfolds after a summer of behind the scenes drama. When AMC and executive producer Frank Darabont abruptly parted ways this past July, it was uncertain whether the hit show would remain the same without the driving force behind it.
Rest assured zombie fanatics. Robert Kirkman, writer of "The Walking Dead" comic series and executive producer on the show, stopped by MTV News and assured viewers that when the second season premieres this Sunday (October 16), it will be the same "Dead" we love and that the issues stayed behind the camera.
"You're not going to see any difference on screen; the show is still the show. Everybody's working really hard to maintain that," Kirkman says. "I'm happy to report that the second season is totally cool. It's going to be pretty awesome."
Kirkman assured fans that the kind of executive producer changeup that took place is one that takes place all the time in television and that credit for the seamless transition belongs to his friend and the new showrunner, Glen Mazzara.
"We've been working for over a year together. It was cool to have him come in and take over that role," Kirman says. "It's really been a saving grace to have someone completely and utterly invested in the show who's been working on the second season since day one already, knows all the characters, knows the story, can slip into the job and kind of keep things running."
