Christmas came early last week for comic book and movie fans with the arrival of the "Dark Knight Rises" theatrical trailer, easily one of the coolest pieces of promotional art we've ever seen around these parts. And we're not the only ones who liked what we saw — apparently, millions of you out there are big fans of the trailer, too.
In a press release, Warner Bros. announced that the new "Dark Knight Rises" trailer obliterated the record for "most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site (www.itunes.com/trailers/) and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch."
That record-breaking number is north of 12.5 million views within the first 24 hours of the trailer being online, breaking the previous record (set by "Marvel's The Avengers") by "well over two million."
Not that anyone should be surprised by the news — it's a fantastic trailer that's very much worth pouring over every few minutes as we await our next trip to Gotham City. It's no secret that "Dark Knight Rises" is one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 (if not the most), high praise for a year that is absolutely jam-packed with highly awaited blockbusters (including trailers for "The Hobbit" and "Prometheus," both of which launched last week as well).
This latest number for the "Dark Knight Rises" trailer views is, again, not too shocking, but it's an encouraging sign that all eyes remain firmly on Bruce Wayne as he walks (or hobbles as the case may be) to the finish line of Christopher Nolan's Batman saga.
