Winter is coming… to Asgard!
Following the departure of "Monster" filmmaker Patty Jenkins from the director's chair, Marvel Studios has now found its replacement to helm its upcoming "Thor" sequel in the form of Alan Taylor, best known for his work on HBO's "Game of Thrones" series.
Deadline reported the hiring on Christmas Eve, bringing fans of the Marvel franchise a much needed gift of good news for the holiday season. With Taylor in place, "Thor 2" should be well on its way towards meeting that November 5, 2013 deadline.
In addition to directing episodes of "Game of Thrones," Taylor's previous credits also include work on "Boardwalk Empire" and "Nurse Jackie," as well as the feature film "Palookaville." A relatively unknown quantity by big budget Hollywood blockbuster standards, but hey, Kenneth Branagh was a bit of an unconventional choice to direct the original "Thor," too — so far, Marvel's continued hiring of unexpected filmmakers has paid off for them quite nicely.
Then again, I really wanted to see Jenkins on "Thor," if only as a way to get what I'm really hoping for: Charlize Theron as Enchantress! A fan can dream…
