Here's a word of advice: if you want to avoid spoilers for your most-anticipated superhero films, avoid their spin-off toys. With "The Amazing Spider-Man," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers" all getting toy tie-ins to go along with their upcoming releases, the promotional art and descriptions for the toys have given away more secret details about the movies than the official trailers and images combined.
With the American International Toy Fair kicking off this week in New York and the New York Toy Fair in full swing, expect plenty more spoilery toy-related information to flood your way. Today's installment features "The Avengers," which have a new board game and LEGO figurines that are giving away some major details about the upcoming Marvel ensemble superhero film. Consider yourself warned if you want to remain unspoiled!
Up first, one of the biggest clues yet that the Skrulls will be one of the villains in "The Avengers." The Super Bowl TV spot seemed to show us aliens that weren't Skrulls, but a new skill and strategy board game tie-in for the movie seems to feature them as the game's baddies. You need to defeat the little pink alien figurines (shown in the above image) in the "battle for the cosmic cube," something that seems like it could be part of the plot for the film. Then again, the two could be unrelated -- or the aliens could not even be Skrulls -- so don't consider this fact until it's officially confirmed. The images that show this game come via Idle Hands and MTV Geek.
In other toy news, LEGO has unveiled their "The Avengers" line-up. Marvel (via Collider) has debuted a first look at the various toy sets, which seem to include some major spoilers about the upcoming action scenes in the flick.
Take for instance "Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout." The trailer for the film have teased the fact that Loki will be imprisoned in the Avengers Helicarrier, but the description for this toy set adds that Loki will make Hawkeye lose control of his function-packed fighter jet and the Hulk has to be the one to bring it down and rescue Hawkeye.
Similarly, "Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape" teases that Loki manages to escape from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters with the Cosmic Cube, and Iron Man and Hawkeye need to go stop him. Then, in "Quinjet Arial Battle," the Avengers need to use their supersonic Quinjet to defeat and capture Loki in the aircraft's prison pod.
