Michael Shannon Teases General Zod's Dialogue

Bookmark and Share

When it comes to giving publicity lip service Michael Shannon isn't always forthright, because he's one of the absolute best working in the biz today and doesn't need to play our media games. The answers we got from him regarding his role as General Zod in "Man of Steel" must be taken with a grain of salt, but we'll let you decide for yourself.

Catching with the "Take Shelter" actor at the Independent Spirit Awards, MTV News tried to probe for any details he could get about the top-secret Zack Snyder Superman relaunch, still more than a year away from release.

"I saw the dance sequence, but that's it, just because I have to match the moves," Shannon said. "We're actually taking a lot of stuff from 'The Artist' and incorporating it into 'The Man of Steel.'"

Probably not, no. But as we pushed for a more serious answer regarding Zod's intellectual prominence in the film, Shannon got a little serious. "Zod has some speeches; he has some cool speeches," he said. "I got to say some cool stuff, but I can't say any of it right now."

After a pause, Shannon relented, offering up one dramatically-delivered line: "Do you realize the universe is constantly shrinking, Superman?"

Judging by the giggles of his red carpet companion, it may not have been entirely accurate. Still, Shannon is so good that the finished product is worth waiting for, even if he admitted he's not a huge fan of the comic books. But, uh, let's hope all of that chatter about the dance sequence stays in the pocket, lest we have a "Spider-Man 3" type of backlash on our hands.

Do you think Shannon was joking or truthful with his General Zod line? Tell us your take in the comments and on Twitter!
