A "Fantastic Four" reboot is something Fox has been working on for years, but the project has never quite made it off the ground. Recent rumors pegged "Chronicle's" Josh Trank as Fox's first choice to helm the flick, though it appears he may have passed in order to adapt "Red Star" instead.
The movie hasn't had much luck since it was announced several years back, but at least one actor has kept the film on his mind. When Nick Offerman dropped by the podcast "WTF with Marc Maron," he admitted that he still holds a grudge for not being cast as the Thing the first time Fox made the flick, and we can't help hoping he'd be up for starring as him during a second go-around.
Host Marc Maron told Offerman that he reminds him of Michael Chiklis, and asked if they have ever been friends (via a transcription by io9). Turns out that he hasn't, and that might have something to do with a certain "Fantastic Four" hero.
"I was really upset when he got to play Ben Grimm in the 'Fantastic Four,'" Offerman admitted. "That's the only superhero with a big head. All these years I was like, 'Someday they're gonna make Fantastic Four, and I'm gonna be the one saying, "It's clobberin' time!'"
Is it too early to start the Offerman-for-Grimm campaign, Fox? Hey, a "Parks and Rec" fan can dream! Our only stipulation is that whomever ends up directing the "Fantastic Four" remake allow Offerman to keep his token facial hair. We've all learned that Ron Swanson is not quite the same without his mustache.
